Pedodontics is
the dental treatment of children. We help to establish
good dental hygiene habits for children at an early age in life.

Due to
fluorides in toothpaste's and in some water supplies,
cavities in children and young adults have decreased
dramatically; however, fluorides have little or no
effect on the bite or chewing surface of a tooth.
A young person's growing teeth have deep pits and
fissures that almost always collect food and bacteria.
Because the pits are so deep often a toothbrush or even
a dental pick cannot reach the trapped food and a cavity
develops. Sealants can fill the deep pits and keep
the tooth surface cavity free. |
Sealants
The use of
sealants is common in the preventative measures to fight
cavities in children. Sealant is a liquid resin that bonds
to the tooth enamel and fills-up the deep tooth crevices,
sealing out food and bacteria. Sealants are a comfortable
procedure. They are placed without drilling, without a
shot and in a single visit. They are an easy cost
effective way for children to be cavity free! Most
insurance companies will pay for sealants. Bring your
children and teenagers in for a sealant treatment. It's
worth it!
Mouth Guards
The American
Dental Association recommends that children, teenagers and even
adults who are active in sports wear a custom fabricated mouth
guard - Sports guard.

A store bought
(a boil and fit) mouth guard is far from ideal because they do
not fit correctly often interfering with breathing and speaking.
They can also place pressure on certain teeth.
Southwest Dental
Group makes custom, professional-grade mouth guards that fit
correctly and provides a better chance of preventing injury. |
